Vivo

VivoVivo is a wonderful beagle who came to us for surgery for a torn ligament in his knee. He is cheerful and outgoing, very friendly, and has a great beagle voice which he enjoys using!

Vivo was dropped at a shelter hobbling around on three legs, and made his way to BONES beagle rescue. We volunteer our services to BONES, so Vivo came to visit us. We discovered that he had an unstable knee, which we love to fix! Digital radiographs showed that he had previously had surgery on his other knee, and that he also had an old healed injury to his ankle. Arthroscopic surgery revealed a complete tear of his Cranial Cruciate Ligament (CCL) and a triple layer tear of his medial meniscus. Vivo had already developed a significant amount of arthritis. We debrided the damaged CCL and the meniscal injury arthroscopically, and then stabilized his knee with a Tibial Tubercle Advancement (TTA) using titanium implants.

VivoVivo did great through surgery and recovery, and went back to his foster home to recover. His foster family did a fantastic job of physical therapy and rehabilitation! He just came back for his follow up radiographs which show his healing to be progressing very well. He is using his leg again like a champ, and ready to go back to his normal beagle activity! We don't expect him to win the Boston Marathon, but he can expect to live a normal life on 4 legs. He will have some arthritic issues in his golden years, but then again, most of us do, too.
